Cultivating A Sustainable Future: The Agricultural Training Initiative at Lead Haiti Campus

In the serene town of Milot, in the heart of the third communal section of Génipailler, a revolutionary initiative has taken place in April 2024. Lead Haiti’s Campus was the stage for a memorable day, marked by a unique training session. Thanks to the generosity and commitment of the Second Mile foundation, five passionate experts dedicated their time and expertise to deliver an intensive training on gardening and agricultural techniques to our young students.

Lead Haiti, an institution dedicated to education and community development, takes pride in being based in Milot. Our mission is rooted in empowering young Haitians through access to quality education and opportunities for personal growth. We firmly believe in the value of hands-on learning and connection with the land, values that perfectly align with those of Second Mile.

The Second Mile foundation, known for its commitment to sustainable development and community self-sufficiency, dispatched a team of seasoned experts to share their expertise with our students. Their goal was simple yet powerful: to equip the next generation with the skills necessary to cultivate a sustainable future for themselves and their community. To teach the haitian kids and students the agricultural basic skills. To show them how to grow crops to feed themselves and their families as well as principles to protect the environment. Because protecting the environment is also protecting themselves.

From the early hours following their exams, excitement was palpable on the Lead Haiti campus. Students, curious and enthusiastic, gathered to partake in this unique experience. The Second Mile team took the time to introduce themselves, sharing their own inspiring journeys in the field of sustainable agriculture. The bond among participants quickly formed, creating an environment conducive to learning and idea exchange.

The training session itself was structured to be both informative and practical. Students were introduced to a variety of topics, ranging from soil preparation to crop management to the efficient use of water and natural resources. Hands-on demonstrations were provided, allowing participants to immediately put into practice the concepts learned.

Beyond the acquired agricultural skills, this day also planted seeds of hope and inspiration among our students. Many expressed gratitude for this unique learning opportunity. Some even shared their desire to put these skills into practice in their own communities, thus creating a positive ripple effect that transcends campus borders.

It was a viral education program including feeding, reforestation, cleaning and community health education. A school garden and nursery. For Lead Haiti and Second Mile, this collaboration is just the beginning of a fruitful and enduring relationship. We are committed to continuing to work together to offer transformative learning opportunities to our youth, as we firmly believe that it is through investing in education and sustainable development that we can truly change the world.

The agricultural training initiative at Lead Haiti campus on Tuesday, April 2, 2024, will be remembered as a moment of transformation and inspiration. We warmly thank the Second Mile foundation for its generous support and commitment to our shared mission of cultivating a better future for all. Together, we will continue to sow the seeds of change and cultivate strong, resilient, and sustainable communities.
